Now that August 20th is over, I can upload this

Every year the carving club I belong to does what we call The People's Choice Show at our local mall. Members from our club bring their carvings and burning out to the mall and set them up for display. Some members make some sales, some come just to show and promote the club. We also have a couple tables set aside with carvings and burnings that are to be judged by the public on which they like best. For the wood burners this year the theme was "Something with Wings".

So...since I watched this anime earlier in the year and loved it, I thought I would do Rakka from Haibane Renmei

I really enjoyed the art and story, so if you have not seen it yet and enjoy anime, I recommend it. It's a short series (which I like) and is a bit on the serious side but is very well rounded. My favorite chacter is actually Reki, and I had originally planned on doing a burn of her but the picture I liked the most would not work with the size of the wood I planned to use for my entry. So, I chose this picture of Rakka instead. One of the things that drew me to this picture is the chair XD It looked challenging and almost a little intimidating. The other challenging element was her halo. I had to come up with a way to create it without shading or adding color, which was what ultimately led me to do the background the way that I did. So, pretty much the entire surface of this is wood burned except her halo and the whites of her eyes! Lots of burning!!

I think this is the first time I m seeing an genuine angel which actually makes you go "aww"... I haven't heard about about the 'Haibane' that you have mentioned but I will soon check it out...

And I must congratulate you on the wood carving ... Its absolutely next to perfection..

P.S. I have never ever in my life seen any image than this that is both sad and calm.. A job well done, my friend..

Wow...thank you for the very touching words!! The feelings you have expressed toward Rakka will only multiply for the other characters of Haibane Renmei. The artwork in that story is so beautiful and the characters are so lovely, my favorite being Reiki <3
