Finally finished
Here is my final portrait of Jakesully from James Cameron's Avatar.
Did I say final? We will see LOL
Done on Basswood round with bark on the edges.
Roughly...13x10
A lot of the detail was lost here because the piece of wood is too large to scan properly and a picture of it is just as bad

Perfect media for making Avatar pictures-gets the whole nature aspect.
Do you hand "burn" these, or program them into a laser engraver? (One of my artist buddies used to do the setup drawings for lasering.)

And I only use 3 tools, the skew, the shader, and the ball...but for all my avatar pics I pretty much only used my shader.

It takes some time to get used to, but if you have done pen and ink work, or pencil work, you will catch on really quickly
Its all about patience too.
